BYON8: Story, Founders, Investors & Funding Rounds

The company was founded in 2015 by Josef Murad & Matias Murad to make healthcare affordable and available to those who need it the most in Africa. BYON8’s app runs 24/7 and you can easily access the app any time you face a problem.

The goal was to make high-quality healthcare more accessible, affordable, and equal by digitizing healthcare on an individual level.

The BYON8 app was developed as a result of over four years of medical research and development launching in late 2020.

The startup strengthens healthcare processes by leveraging mathematical algorithms and medical AI to convert patient data into calculated diagnosis propositions, making it accessible to everyone, regardless of financial status.

BYON8 consists of two major services: a free symptom checker that allows users to enter their symptoms and determine what is causing them, and a paid symptom checker that assists users in determining what is causing their symptoms.

Booking appointments with licensed doctors and communicating with them via video or built-in chat.

The platform asks the user a series of questions based on their medical history and present symptoms and then gives them feedback and guidance.

BYON8 can also keep track of users’ health information, lab reports, health care visits, and other important details.

How it Works

All BYON8 customers have access to the BYON8 platforms, which include a rule-based diagnostic engine with over 3.5 billion patient cases and 100,000 rules.

The company is built around two main services. The first is a free symptom checker that allows users to enter their symptoms and figure out the reason behind them and the second one is a paid symptom checker that helps users figure out what’s causing their symptoms, and book appointments or have a video consultation with licensed doctors.

BYON8 has developed medical diagnostic software intended to improve people’s lives by building a foundation for the next generation of health care.

The company’s software utilizes mathematical algorithms and medical artificial intelligence to transform patient data into calculated diagnosis propositions, thereby improving the healthcare process and customer experience regardless of economic wealth.

BYON8 is centered around two core offerings, a free symptom checker that allows users to enter their symptoms and understand what might be causing them.

The opportunity to schedule appointments with licensed MDs and get in touch through video or built-in chat.

BYON8 customers are turning to the startup for its great user experience, fair pricing, and the convenience of having instant access to high-quality doctors directly from their mobile phones.

The company intends to fuel its growth through close and synergistic collaboration with strategic partners within, and on the periphery of, the healthcare ecosystem.

Users (your potential patients)

Users that have downloaded the app can perform symptom checkups and access online doctors (you) through the BYON8 app.

BYON8 Pro

Users that purchase an online consultation are immediately connected with doctors who are signed up for the BYON8 Pro service.

Request

All doctors that use the service received a request/notification on their smartphone. The first doctor to answer the request is connected with the user.

Diagnosis

Healthcare providers can determine the diagnosis online and prescribe medications with e-prescriptions.

In cases where the patient needs further investigation, the provider can refer them to partnering healthcare facilities (labs, x-ray, and so on).

Summary and Medical History

BYON8 Pro users are assisted by the medical engine that provides possible diagnoses based on the patient’s symptoms to increase diagnostic accuracy.

All patient data is stored in one place and can be accessed the next time the healthcare provider interacts with the patient.
