How To Pay Kenya Power Bill (Step-By-Step Guide In 2020)

In this guide, I will show you how to pay Kenya Power bill in 2020.

To get right to the point, there are two types of Kenya Power users:

  1. Prepaid
  2. Posts paid

Let’s discuss each first because they do not pay Kenya power bill using the same methods.

Prepaid Kenya Power Users

As a prepaid user, you pay your bills in advance. To do this, Kenya Power has introduced the ‘tokens’ system.

Remember how you recharge your mobile phone with airtime?

Well, Kenya Power has the same system, but instead of recharging the phone, you are using a prepaid meter box.

What is Prepaid Kenya Power meter?

It is a type of meter with a customer interface unit that has a screen resembling that of a mobile phone. It allows you to manage power consumption the same way you control airtime on your mobile phone.

And without the ‘credit’ recharge on the power meter, you don’t have any electricity (hence the word prepaid). This also means that when you exhaust the recharge, you lose power, until you recharge again.

Works exactly like recharging credit on your phone. Without credit, you cannot make calls or text.

With that said, you now know that you need some sort of ‘credit card’ to get the power.

Well, the power consumption is recorded by the electricity meter. Then every month, a Kenya Power employee visits to read the meter and update that month’s electricity bill.
