Twitter’s Future Shakes Up as Elon Musk Unveils New CEO Pick

A new CEO has been appointed at Twitter, just a day after Elon Musk tweeted that the platform’s new head would be taking up the position in around six weeks.

Although Musk didn’t reveal the identity of the new CEO, there has been much discussion among those in the technology and media industries about who it might be.

Names that have been mentioned include former Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer, former YouTube CEO Susan Wojcicki, and Shivon Zilis, a senior executive at Musk’s Neuralink.

However, according to the Wall Street Journal, Linda Yaccarino, an executive at Comcast NBCUniversal, is believed to be in talks for the role.

In a tweet posted today, Musk has confirmed this information. The tweet reads as follows:

“Linda Yaccarino as the new CEO of Twitter! @LindaYacc will focus primarily on business operations, while I focus on product design & new technology. Looking forward to working with Linda to transform this platform into X, the everything app.”

Following his acquisition of Twitter for a whopping $44 billion in October, Musk had initially revealed his plan to step down as CEO once he finds a suitable replacement.

His idea was to oversee Twitter’s software and servers teams while another person takes on the CEO role.

Ever since Musk became Twitter’s owner, he has implemented significant changes, such as firing the previous CEO and other senior leaders, as well as downsizing the company’s workforce by 50%.

Musk explained that his aim was to prevent the platform from turning into an echo chamber for hate and division, while simultaneously fighting spam bots.

According to him, Twitter is currently “roughly breaking even” financially.
